Enormous music collection, large number of apps, hundreds of photographs and a few movies and videos (ya ya, that includes your hidden porn as well ). I don’t think that leaves you with much of free space on your Apple iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch. If you have a 16GB iOS device, then you’ll definitely feel the crunch. 32GB, and specially 64GB iOS device owners are somewhat immune to the free space problem but over time, it’ll hit them too. Though you have the option to push your media to iCloud, you can’t do that for apps and with app size for games like FIFA touching 1GB, having free space on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch can be quite a problem.

Today I came across a nifty little utility that helps free up some space on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch. PhoneClean is a freeware app for Windows that attempts to free up disk space on your iOS device by deleting all the junk files.

Over time, Apple iOS devices are used to load up with a large number of long-term caches and temp and junk files generated by various apps or due to iTunes failed syncs. Most of these files are useless and deleting them won’t harm your device in any way, rather these junk files consume memory resources and slow down your iPhone and iPad when launching apps. What PhoneClean does is that it simply deletes these unneeded files and hence frees up disk space. According to the developer, PhoneClean can reclaim up to 40% free iPhone space. Apart from that, removing these files also makes your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch run faster.

PhoneClean Interface Free Up Disk Space on iPhone

The best part – NO JAILBREAK required. PhoneClean works even if your iPhone is not Jailbroken and supports all generations of Apple iOS devices.

Download PhoneClean here for free and make your iPhone or iPad run faster and smoother.

Google Chrome for iPhone and iPad http://tech-junky.com/chrome/google-chrome-for-iphone-and-ipad/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=google-chrome-for-iphone-and-ipad Sun, 01 Jul 2012 15:02:16 +0000 http://tech-junky.com/chrome/google-chrome-for-iphone-and-ipad/ Continue reading Google Chrome for iPhone and iPad]]>

Yes you read it right – Google Chrome is now available for the iPhone and the iPad. The app was announced on the second day of the Google I/O annual conference and is the latest addition to Google’s iOS app basket.

The release of Google Chrome for the iPhone and iPad comes a month after Yahoo released a browser called Axis for the iOS. However the advantage lies in Google’s court as Chrome is already one of the most popular alternatives to Microsoft’s Internet Explorer.

Google Chrome for iPhone and iPad

The iOS Chrome looks very much familiar to it’s desktop counterpart. The address bar, the tabs, menu colours and the overall layout looks very Chromish. To be frank, the design is very neat and elegant and every Chrome user will love it.

Google Chrome for iPhone - Address bar, Layout and Speak Now button

Once you open up the browser you see the familiar address bar, search bar, navigation and the tabs button. Tapping on the menu button brings up a whole range of options. There’s an option to open a new tab, browse in the Incognito mode, access your bookmarks, view your other synced devices, open settings and get help.

Chrome gives you the option to easily sync bookmarks across all your devices with the help of your Google account. If you use Chrome on your desktop then this feature can prove to be very useful. Navigation is quite zippy and the pages load lightning fast. By default iPhone shows the mobile version of the website but you can change that by tapping on Request Desktop Settings. Overall apart from a few hiccups, the performance is quite good. There’s a Speak Now button too (highlighted in red above) that lets you speak and search the web.

Google Chrome is a power packed browser for the iOS and is easily the best alternative to Safari. If you use your iPhone and iPad to browse the web, then this app is a must have. Give it a try and you’ll know why.

iOS 6 and iPhone 5 Coming in September http://tech-junky.com/apple/ios-6-and-iphone-5-coming-in-september/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=ios-6-and-iphone-5-coming-in-september Mon, 11 Jun 2012 14:46:24 +0000 http://tech-junky.com/apple/ios-6-and-iphone-5-coming-in-september/ Continue reading iOS 6 and iPhone 5 Coming in September]]>

Apple is expected to release iOS 6 in September and the iPhone 5 shortly after, according to one industry analyst. The new version of Apple’s mobile operating system will be unveiled today at this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. Some of the features for the new OS have already been leaked to the public although nobody outside of Apple has had a chance to see the OS in use.

KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claimed that the final version of iOS 6, codenamed Golden Master, would be ready by September although a beta version will be released at WWDC for developers to begin working with. With the final version of iOS 6 ready in September the release date for the iPhone 5 will be shortly after, contrary to earlier rumours that the phone would be released in June.

iOS 6 is expected to bring greater Facebook integration, with many of the proposed features already being reported online. The iPhone has previously lacked Facebook integration due to an on-going feud between the two companies, but Facebook and Apple now seemed to have buried the hatchet and have agreed to work together for their mutual benefit. iOS already includes Twitter integration and the plans to integrate Facebook will place the iPhone in a stronger position regarding social network support.

The integration will allow users to sign up to other apps using Facebook connect, rather than being redirected to the Facebook app or website to accept permissions, and will also allow users to Like apps in the App Store. The integration should also allow the sharing of content such as photos more easily from the iOS interface.

Apple is also planning to ditch support for Google Maps with iOS 6 in favour of its own mapping software. The map app will include 3D models of buildings for most major cities with Apple employing “spy planes” with military standard cameras to take high resolution images of buildings. The resolution of these images will be so high that they will be able to show objects measuring just 4 inches across. Although 3D maps are very popular with consumers the use of these planes has raised a number of concerns amongst privacy advocates, as the cameras may be able to photograph inside people’s windows.

Leaked images of what is claimed to be the iPhone 5 has a larger 4 inch screen. If these images are genuine it will be the first time that Apple has moved away from a 3.5 inch screen design. Steve Jobs was reportedly not in favour of producing a larger screened phone but Apple is now facing pressure to produce larger displays due to the popularity of Android handsets such as the Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy S3.

Ming-Chi Kuo also confirmed these reports of a larger screen, along with the 16:9 aspect ratio and HD front camera. Apple is also expected to make updates to iCloud and Siri with iOS 6.
