Following an outbreak of Windows-related malware, Microsoft took Bill Gates’ requests in 2002 to make safety a main concern. Bill Gates was depressed seeing the incidents of breakouts and he had completely had it seeing how many reports and incidences had come to him. Similarly, the customers were also gloomy seeing the presence of viruses and malicious outbreaks on their system.

It was at that time that chairman of Microsoft put his foot down and commanded an altered memo to the employee working in the company. A series of changes were about to happen and that was to be known as an era of “trustworthy computing.”

The new creations that are made now target and hope for reducing the quantity of the aforementioned problems that arise in the software Microsoft, its customers or partners create. Microsoft feels that they should provide its customers with these alterations and the advantages they bring with them. In time, the company does hope that they would make such safe software that they won’t ever become a cause for the customers to fuss over it.

Despite the promises and attempts, safety and protection issues have become a big disappointment for Microsoft. The problems also appeared in Windows XP along with Microsoft’s net initiative. This was a big ongoing project at the time and was bound to assure the users of an all the time safe route to businesses through the internet.

What came afterwards was that Microsoft picked security rather than the bottom line for Windows development. Thus instead of new products, more work was to be done on making the then available products more safe and secure. About 85,000 developers got trained in safe programming and then scrutinized the array of Windows code; where all the product development was halted, this event totaled to be around $100 million.

It is a good thing that Microsoft has been working on its security performance as seeing the array of platforms these days, security and safety matters a lot. Blackberry has been named one of the most secure platforms and it is maybe that way its sales always seem to be decent. Anti-virus and firewalls are present in almost every single computer. Seeing how handheld devices have turned into mini computers, people tend to save their personal, financial or professional details on the device itself. Spyware software is being installed in smart phones merely to protect them or to be used as a way of tracking someone. Mobistealth and Mobile Spy are some of the few popular names that are being widely purchased by people to keep their loved ones safe.

The disappointing history of Microsoft does get better as the company has stepped up its game in providing more secure products but so have the villains and the cybercriminals. Where companies come out with the better weapons, the cybercriminals come out much more advanced attacks. Many of the Microsoft users still aren’t sure whether after ten years of Windows malware if they feel safer or not.

Windows 7 review http://tech-junky.com/microsoft/windows-7-review/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=windows-7-review Sat, 15 Aug 2009 14:51:16 +0000 http://tech-junky.com/microsoft/windows-7-review/ Continue reading Windows 7 review]]>

With Microsoft finalizing Windows 7, the new OS is set to come out in October. The successor to Windows Vista pack in plethora of features.

The guys over at Engadget have given the final build a detailed review.

Wrap Up:

Where Vista felt like a sprawling mess, Windows 7 has patched up the holes and feels like a tight, unified mechanism. It’s hardly full of surprises, but that’s usually a good thing when it comes to operating systems. If you’ve never been a Windows person, there’s hardly anything here that will change your mind about that. However, most human beings on this planet have some sort of interaction with Windows on a regular basis, whether by choice or necessity, and Windows 7 is great news for those millions of souls.

Instead of switching up the formula, Windows 7 is really an extension and a refinement of the true tenets of Windows (that we just made up): broad hardware compatibility, coatings of usability over deep functionality, and a “everything for everybody” approach to feature sets and SKUs. With such broad aims, and such a diverse userbase, it’s no wonder that there are plenty of spots where the OS still falls short, but taken as a whole it’s clear that Microsoft has taken a strong step forward with Windows 7. The world will know on October 22.

Microsoft Surface http://tech-junky.com/gadgets/microsoft-surface/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=microsoft-surface Mon, 28 Apr 2008 15:03:33 +0000 http://tech-junky.com/gadgets/microsoft-surface/ Continue reading Microsoft Surface]]>

This is something really big and cool from Microsoft. It seems to be a normal table. Until it’s switched on.

Actually, Microsoft Surface is a Multi-touch product which is developed as a software and hardware combination technology that allows a user to control it through his hand gestures or physical objects.

At a glance, Microsoft Surface looks like a normal table. But it’s not that simple. It’s a sort of a computer that uses the tabletop as its high-resolution display, identifies objects like mobile phones, digital cameras etc. placed on it’s surface and replaces the conventional keyboard and mouse with fingers on the screen.

The device appears to be quite innovative and interesting when seen in the videos released by the company. In one example, people place their mobile phones on the table and in an instance the information relating to the device’s model, memory and much more is displayed. In another example, a girl is shown painting on the table with her fingers and even with a paint brush.

These are just a few of the possibilities of the Microsoft Surface. You can’t visualise all this in your mind. So why not give some videos a shot. You can watch videos showing the device’s functioning and get more information on this device at the Microsoft Surface’s site.
