As you know Facebook is one of the popular social networking sites and Google is a reputed search engine. Both these companies strive to sustain in this web world. You cannot deny the fact that Google and Facebook are the two epochs of the technical era. While Facebook is current social era, Google is rapidly receding to the past. In the technical era, it is often seen that one leader doesn’t lead to the next.

But Google is a toast in this regard. It is not at all stagnant rather the core business is developing every moment. Its core products are improving and successfully entering the new market. Take a quick glimpse at the variety of arenas where both Google and Facebook are struggling for future of the technology.

Social Activity

When it comes to social activities, Facebook takes a higher strand than Google. Hours after hours are spent on Facebook in comparison to Google. People spend around 2 hours a month on Google and consider that to be enough. Google understood the importance of social networking and hence launched Google+ recently. This social system has a better design than Facebook, especially in its way of handling the variable privacy with the aid of its Circles.

What Google+ lacks is globally connected user base of the Facebook. Google might not unseat Facebook in the social field but can effectively drive the users from Facebook.

Search

As all of us know that the web is a huge store house of information and Google shows you the way how to extract the contents of the web. Google is not just concerned with collecting of the information, it also shows how it collects information for the users and the ranking of the result in the Google page. Social interconnection is the core essence of Facebook and social data is conducive in building socially-aware search.

Google is making effort to stay ahead of the social networking site, Facebook both traditionally and socially. Social signals are integrated into Google search by the feature of “Search Plus Your World”. Google though lacks the intensity of social data like Facebook, incorporate extremely private social data in its search results.

The current scenario is – Facebook is entering the realm of general search and Google is entering the realm of social search. In this regard, Google is said to acquire the upper strand.

Identity

Identify solution is present in both Google and Facebook and they are perfect for owning social index. Facebook’s identity solution is enormous – it collects data as to on which system you and your friends are signing up and everyone is getting connected. Google’s identity solution is not as same as the Facebook. Signing into Facebook makes sense as you get the chance to interact with one another. If you are planning to sign up for new services, Facebook is the ultimate solution. Google has to buck up in this regard.

Google and Facebook have their own aspect and features important to the web world. You need to make the choice according to your need.

Select and Invite all your FaceBook Friends to an Event, Page at once http://tech-junky.com/facebook/select-and-invite-all-your-facebook-friends-to-an-event-page-at-once/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=select-and-invite-all-your-facebook-friends-to-an-event-page-at-once Sat, 21 Jul 2012 11:09:17 +0000 http://tech-junky.com/index.php/2012/07/21/select-and-invite-all-your-facebook-friends-to-an-event-page-at-once/ Continue reading Select and Invite all your FaceBook Friends to an Event, Page at once]]>

When sending out an invite for an Event, Page or a Group, FaceBook doesn’t let you select all your contacts. You need to manually select the friends you wish to send an invite to. Considering the possibility of you having a large number of FaceBook friends, manually selecting each one would consume a hell lot of time.

Well, there is a way out and it’s fairly simple and doesn’t require anything to be installed. A small JavaScript command line is all that is needed.

FaceBook Invite Everybody at Once

How to Invite all your FaceBook friends at one go:

1. Fire up Google Chrome and login to your FaceBook account. Open the Page, Group or Event and click on Invite Friends.

2. An Invite box displaying all your friends will appear. Select Search All Your Friends from the drop down box. Now scroll through all your friends, ie. scroll down to the bottom of the list. This step is a must if you want to select all your friends.

3. Once you’ve scrolled the entire list, press Ctrl + Shift + J. This will open up the JavaScipt console.

4. Now copy the JavaScript below and paste it in the console (Only Ctrl + V will work) and press Enter.

javascript:elms=document.getElementsByName("checkableitems[]");for (i=0;i<elms.length;i++){if (elms[i].type="checkbox" )elms[i].click()};

FaceBook Invite All Friends Selected

You’ll notice a tick in the checkbox against the names of all your friends. Click on the Submit button and FaceBook will invite everyone. If you have a large number of friends, it may take a minute or two to send all the invites. Do not refresh the page, wait for it to finish sending the invites. You’ll be shown a message once it’s done.

It’s not unusual to see a FaceBook element get a new look. The latest one to get a design refresh is the Events Page. By updating the Events listings, FaceBook has made it easier to keep track of events. The refreshed look follows the introduction of the Google+ Events page last month.

FaceBook Events Page Redesign

The new FaceBook Events page gives you two views – Calendar view and List view. You can now see all the events in advance, so it’s pretty easy to plan for the upcoming birthdays. You can also view suggested events and respond to invites, all from the same page. Clicking on a date opens up a dialogue box which shows all the events for that date as well as gives you the option to create an event. Overall the refreshed look is a welcome one and improvises upon the pervious version.

How to use your @FaceBook.com email account http://tech-junky.com/facebook/facebook-email-account/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=facebook-email-account Tue, 26 Jun 2012 11:09:07 +0000 http://tech-junky.com/index.php/2012/06/26/facebook-email-account/ Continue reading How to use your @FaceBook.com email account]]>

Do you know that you have an @facebook.com email account? Sounds cool, right? It’s been there for a long time now and if you don’t know about it then it’s time you check out the FaceBook email facility.

It’s been a while since FaceBook provided all it’s users with an @facebook.com email account. Though most of us are not aware of our FaceBook email accounts, this service very much exists within our FaceBook inbox. Recently FB started showing everyone’s FaceBook email addresses on their respective Timelines. I gave the service a try and turns out it’s pretty much functional and built right into our inbox.

Your email address on Facebook is the same as your public username or your public user ID. If you know nothing about your FaceBook email address, go to your Timeline. If it’s visible then fine, otherwise click on ‘Update Info’ and then check out the ‘Contact Info’ section. It should be listed there ([email protected]). That is your FaceBook email ID.

Now how do you use this thing? Go to your Inbox (Home > Messages) and click on New Message. Type an email address in the TO field and send your message. Boom! The message will be delivered to that email address. It works the opposite way too. You can compose an email to [email protected] and your message will be delivered to the FaceBook inbox.

Note: Messages may be shown under Message > Other

What about attachments? I tried sending an attachment from my Gmail account to my FaceBook account and the image showed up in my FaceBook inbox within a minute. Cool! But unforunately I was unable to send an attachment from my FaceBook account to Gmail. It showed me an error. Maybe this functionality does not exist at the moment.
Though there’s no way your FaceBook email account can act as a replacement for your primary email account, it can be helpful for sure. You can straightaway send an email to any ID from your FaceBook inbox. It may prove handy at times. Be sure to try it out.

UberSocial : The best Twitter app for BlackBerry http://tech-junky.com/facebook/ubersocial-the-best-twitter-application-for-blackberry/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=ubersocial-the-best-twitter-application-for-blackberry Wed, 13 Jun 2012 15:07:01 +0000 http://tech-junky.com/facebook/ubersocial-the-best-twitter-application-for-blackberry/ Continue reading UberSocial : The best Twitter app for BlackBerry]]>

Twitter is one of the most trending social networking sites. With more and more celebs joining Twitter and more and more people following them, the rate at which Twitter is growing is insane

If you’re an active Twitter user, then it’s next to impossible that you do not have a Twitter application installed on your smartphone. When it comes to BlackBerry smartphones, the official Twitter app is preloaded. But does it suffice?

Official BlackBerry Twitter app

Most BlackBerry users already have the official Twitter app installed on their devices. The app sports a clean and sophisticated interface. It has pretty much everything to get you started. Furthermore the latest v3.0.0.20 update brings BBM integration which allows it to automatically update your BBM status with your tweets. The one problem I’ve noticed is that it doesn’t display @Mentions or ReTweets. If you’re looking for a minimal Twitter app, then this one will work just fine for you.

Is there a better Twitter app for BlackBerry devices?

UberSocial: The best BlackBerry Twitter app

Let me tell you that UberSocial is the most popular Twitter app for BB users. Why is UberSocial special?

UberSocial for BlackBerry review

This app is a must have for everyone who loves to tweet their way around. And the best part – it’s free.

UberSocial Features :

My Inner Circle

Wish to view tweets from a specific group of people? Just add them to your Inner Circle and you’ll get a seperate timeline consisting of stuff exclusively related to them.

Uber Channels

This feature provides you with assorted Channels from various media houses like USA Today, Mashable and more. For example : Business and Marketing, Media, Mobile, Tech and Gadgets.

Recommended People

How about famous personalities categorized into different spheres they respectively belong to? Just go to the category you like and find various people related to that field.

For Example: Fashion has Kim Kardashian. Boy, she’s hot (and dumb), isn’t she? (:P)

FaceBook Integration

UberSocial gives you the option to integrate FaceBook as well. That means you can dual post to both FaceBook and Twitter at the same time. Plus your FaceBook feed is also shown within the app.

BlackBerry context menu integration

UberSocial is added to the BlackBerry context menu so you can open the Compose Tweet part directly from anywhere and everywhere.

Mute User/Keywords

There’s an option to mute or ban specific users or keywords you dont wish to see or read about. So no more tweets about the things you dislike.

Themes

This is the part I really like. You can change the look and feel of the app with the help of themes. There are a lot of themes bundled with the app. If you wish to, you can add more.

Other features

 • Tweet/Retweet, direct mentions, @Replies, @Mentions, Trending Topics.
 • Manage multiple accounts.
 • Photo and video support.
 • Customized notifications.
 • Save tweets as draft in the compose mode.
 • Privacy controls – Protected tweet mode.
 • Tweets near you.
 • Location services including tagging and search.

UberSocial has tons of cool features. It’s a must have if you are a daily twitter user.

FYI: UberSocial is also available for Apple and Android.
