At times you may come across sign boards or banners in some other language that you can’t understand. How will you decode the words? Well you can always ask some passerby, but wouldn’t it be cool if you could do it all by yourself? Try Word Lens. Just point your camera at the sign board and boom! It’ll covert the text into your preferred language. As simple as that.
Word Lens is an app from Quest Visual, available for iOS and Android, that instantly translates printed words using your mobile phone’s built-in camera. The app can translate words in images and photos at the click of a button. And the best part – it happens in real time! Word Lens for the time being supports 4 languages – English, Spanish, French and Italian.
What makes this app superb is it’s ability to translate without the need of Internet (even Google Translate requires Internet). The app tries to display the translated text in the same font and style and makes it larger and easier to read. The app also gives you the option to save a snap of the translation by pressing the ‘pause’ button.
The mobile translation app is absolutely mind blowing and works like a charm. Originally available for the iOS, the app has now been released for Android smartphones as well. You’re free to download the demo version to get a feel of the app, but ultimately you’ll have to shell out $4.99 for full access. You get one language pack when you buy the app. However additional language packs are available as in-app purchases for $4.99. In the developer’s words, these are ‘introductory prices’, so if you wish to get this app get it before they hike the prices.
