Apple WWDC 2012: What all was unveiled

The recently concluded Apple World Wide Developer Conference (WWDC) showcased a lot of new stuff Apple has in store for us. There’s a new version of iOS, a refreshed MacBook lineup, improvements to Siri and a new Map service.

Here’s a summary of what all was unveiled at the WWDC 2012:


New Macbook Pro and MacBook Air 2012

  • A Refreshed line of MacBook Air and Macbook Pro was announced. The new MacBook Pro boasts of a Retina Display and has the world’s highest resolution notebook display.

OS X Mountain

  • OS X Mountain, the 9th major Mac release announced.
  • Available from the Mac App Store for $19.99 in July.
  • Power Nap feature, which allows you to update your Mac while it’s sleeping.
  • Siri Dictation for Mac.

Siri Eye

  • Apple is working with car manufacturers to integrate Siri or as they’ve named it Siri Eye.

Other Siri Improvements

  • Siri will now display sports stats.
  • Just ask Siri to open an app and your virtual assistant will do the same.
  • Siri to be released for the new iPad (iPad 3).

iOS 6

  • iOS 6 comes with over 200 improvements.
  • Challenges in Game Center like the XBox Achievements.
  • “Lost Mode” for iOS devices. Send a phone number and it’ll show a notification on the screen. If anyone finds it they’ll tap, it’ll dial that number automatically.
  • iOS 6 ships this fall, supports 3GS and greater iPhones, 2nd generation iPads and newer, and the 4th generation iPod touch.

iOS 6 brings deeper FaceBook integration

New Map service in iOS 6

  • Apple has unveiled a new Map service which will replace Google Maps.
  • Beautiful maps with Yelp and Siri integration and over 100 million different business listings.
  • It also shows you a 3D flyover view of cities.
  • Siri will provide turn by turn navigation.

So lot of new stuff announced at the WWDC. iOS 6 brings some notable improvements to Siri, plus the new map service and Facebook integration. If Apple’s entirely replacing Google Maps on iOS devices, then I’m pretty sure that the new Map service is going to be kickass. Rest assured the latest iteration of the iOS is definitely a step forward.
