orkut new themes

I recently logged into my Orkut account and accepted a friend request that I had received. Upon accepting the request I gave that person’s profile a visit but there was something unusual about that profile.

The profile had a totally different look which contrasted the default Orkut look. The above screenshot is what the profile looked like. While I explored the profile a bit, I came across a ‘get this theme‘ link on the top. Upon clicking that link, I got directed to a themes page which had some themes displayed. There were 12 themes on that page and among those, 7 were ready to be chosen and others had the coming soon tag. Beach, Country side, Spring time, Winter, JR - the friendly giant were some of the themes available. All of these carried a good design and were a nice replacement for the default interface.

But I couldn’t understand this theme-thing completely. While these worked perfectly with one profile, I couldn’t get them to change another profile’s look. When I visited my skinned profile from another account, I couldn’t see any change and neither could I find any ‘get this theme’ link. Contrary to this, my skinned profile showed everything correctly and was carrying the theme pretty well.

Maybe the Orkut team is upto adding this feature to user profiles but it’s not ready yet. I don’t know wether this feature is available to some users or users of any specific country like happened in the case of ‘Orkut Applications’, which were initially available to people residing in Estonia. Some people might have experienced this thing but it’s surely not available publicly. Did you encounter something of this sort ?

Sony Ericsson W890i Walkman Phone

21 May 2008 In: Mobile

The Sony Ericsson W890i is a slim follow-up to the W880i. The phone features Walkman Player 3.0, a 3.2 mega pixel camera and Sony’s great user interface.

The Walkman 3.0 interface is pretty well organized and easy to use. The home screen has a soft key for the Walkman player, and there is also a hard key on the side for the same. The SensMe feature analyzes a song’s
tempo and sound to judge its “mood”, and then presents out the songs on a graph for the user to select. The 3.2MP camera captures luminous, crisp photos.

The phone’s buttons are a little crammed together, but this isn’t much of a problem. The W890i is a good option for people wanting a nice, simple music-phone.

Microsoft Surface

28 Apr 2008 In: Gadgets

This is something really big and cool from Microsoft. It seems to be a normal table. Until it’s switched on.

Actually, Microsoft Surface is a Multi-touch product which is developed as a software and hardware combination technology that allows a user to control it through his hand gestures or physical objects.

At a glance, Microsoft Surface looks like a normal table. But it’s not that simple. It’s a sort of a computer that uses the tabletop as its high-resolution display, identifies objects like mobile phones, digital cameras etc. placed on it’s surface and replaces the conventional keyboard and mouse with fingers on the screen.

The device appears to be quite innovative and interesting when seen in the videos released by the company. In one example, people place their mobile phones on the table and in an instance the information relating to the device’s model, memory and much more is displayed. In another example, a girl is shown painting on the table with her fingers and even with a paint brush.

These are just a few of the possibilities of the Microsoft Surface. You can’t visualise all this in your mind. So why not give some videos a shot. You can watch videos showing the device’s functioning and get more information on this device at the Microsoft Surface’s site.
